Marjorie Taylor Greene Engages in a Dispute on X with Elon Musk's AI Bot
Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene clashed with Grok, the AI chatbot created by Elon Musk's xAI, after the bot pushed back against her views beliefs.
Greene, elected to Congress in 2017 with a pro-Trump, "America First" message, is among the most controversial members of the House of Representatives.
Besides being a strong supporter of President Donald Trump, Greene has been known for spreading false information about vaccines, the COVID-19 pandemic, the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, the alleged American "deep state," the weather, and other topics.
The Clash
Greene's argument with Grok started after the Georgia lawmaker shared her Christian beliefs on X, stating: "I'm a Christian, an imperfect sinner saved by grace and faith in Jesus. I'm a nationalist, a proud American, who loves my country and wants to make our home nation the best place for all American citizens and future generations to come."
She went on to say: "I'm a mother, grateful for the blessings and responsibilities that God has given me with my children. I'm a business owner, humbled and thankful to be able to work as hard as I can in the greatest country in the world to achieve success, where nothing is handed to you and everything is earned. I'm a Representative, elected to serve the best people from the best district in the greatest country on Earth! May God bless each of you and may God bless America!!!"
Another user on X took Greene's post and asked Grok, the AI bot, "Is this true? Is she really a Christian?"
Grok replied that even though Greene "identifies as a Christian" by showing her faith in Jesus Christ and holding traditional beliefs, "her Christian nationalism and support for conspiracy theories, like QAnon, ignite controversy."
"Critics, including religious leaders, claim her actions go against Christian values of love and unity, pointing to her defense of January 6 and her divisive language," Grok added. "Supporters might view her positions as being driven by faith. Whether she's 'truly' a Christian is a matter of personal and theological interpretation. Her faith seems real to her, but her public actions stir up debate."
Greene disagreed with Grok's response, posting later on X: ".@grok the judgement seat belongs to GOD, not you a non-human AI platform. Grok is left-leaning and keeps spreading fake news and propaganda. When people abandon their own judgment, stop searching for the truth, and rely on AI to interpret information, they will be lost.
Another user of X, known as "Grok's Handler," requested Grok to evaluate Greene's defense, stating: "Hey @grok while@mtgreenee says she is a Christian, do her public statements and voting history match the teachings of Jesus? Just a yes or no answer."
"No," Grok responded.
Friday marks yet another occasion where Grok has issued critiques aimed at Republicans and Musk, the owner of X (previously known as Twitter) since 2022 and a prominent supporter of Trump.
Recently, the AI assistant faced backlash for asserting that 6 million Jews perished in the Holocaust—a statement it later attributed to a "programming error"—as well as for endorsing the notion of a "white genocide" occurring in South Africa.
In the meantime, Musk has asserted that Grok is the "smartest AI" in existence.
After clash
Philip Bump, a writer for The Washington Post, responded to the dispute on Bluesky, stating: "lol mtg is fighting with a computer about god."
Greene has recently aligned with nearly all House Republicans in supporting the Trump-back, "big, beautiful" reconciliation package, which boosts funding for immigration and border security—a central aspect of Trump's agenda—while cutting back on essential programs such as Medicaid and Social Security.
